Delphi* was the site of the Delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical Greek world. In the 8th century BC, when the cult of Apollo prevailed, the growth of the prophetic sanctuary began, while its influence spread gradually throughout the larger east Mediterranean region. A considerable number of finds in Delphi comes from the regions in Syria and Armenia, which indicates the extent of the sanctuary’s influence. Because of the oracle’s great prestige, Greek cities hasted to Delphi to seek divine advice.

Nowadays, Delphi is one of the best classic tourist hot spots worldwide. The archaeological site of the ancient Delphi Oracle surely has boosted Delphi on top of all the wish lists concerning classical tourism

In 1987, UNESCO awarded Delphi Oracle and the surrounding Delphic Landscape the “World Heritage Site” status.

The Archeological Museum of Delphi harmonically supplements the ancient site offering guests a full new dimension and the chance to enjoy masterpieces of art, such as the famous “Charioteer” (“Eneochos”).
